David Mai
David leads an anesthesia group specializing in ambulatory surgery and women’s reproductive health and fertility. Throughout his career, David has been a passionate advocate for evidence-based practice, investing considerable energy in teaching and mentoring the next generation of clinicians through high-fidelity simulation-based learning — an approach that mirrors Spring Hill’s own core value of experiential learning, where the doing and the discovering are inseparable from the knowing.
David understands that true education is never purely transactional. It lives in relationship — between teacher and student, between knowledge and wonder, between individual growth and collective responsibility. That understanding has guided not only his professional life, but a lifetime of service on the water. For decades, David has devoted himself to teaching sailing to young people through Sea Explorers, helping children discover not just the mechanics of wind and tide, but something far more enduring — self-confidence, problem-solving under pressure, teamwork, and the quiet strength that comes from navigating the unknown. In this way, David has long practiced what Spring Hill holds sacred: nurturing each child’s unique potential with joy and a grounded sense of self.
David is also deeply rooted in the Spring Hill community as a parent. He is a devoted husband, and the proud father of two inspiring young learners who are themselves students at Spring Hill — a fact that makes his commitment to the school’s heritage, vitality, and future not merely philosophical, but profoundly personal.
As a Trustee, David joins Spring Hill’s governance team with the same spirit he brings to every endeavor: as a lifelong learner who leads by example, as an educator who knows that the most lasting lessons are taught through presence and passion, and as a community member who believes that when children are truly seen, heard, and known, there is no limit to what they can become.
